:
EXERCISE MAY PREVENT CERTAIN TYPES OF CANCER: our studies
show that non exercising women have a two and a half times greater risk of developing
cancer of the reproductive system and almost twice the chance of developing breast
cancer and those who do exercise" says Rose E. Frisch,Ph. D.,associated professor
at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston. The Reason? Scientists hypothesize
that the lower body fat of long term exercisers results in decreased estrogen
production as well as less potent estrogen that is found in non exercisers. This
is turn causes cells in the breasts and uterus to divide less frequently, decreasing
the chance of tumor formulation. One more advantage according to Dr. Frisch: "Men
and women who exercise are also less likely to get colon cancer"
:
EXERCISE RELIEVES DEPRESSION: "Exercise is nature's best
tranquilizer" says Dorothy Harris, pH. D., professor of exercises and sport science
at Penn State University in University Park. If you have "the blues" exercise
may have elevator you mood. I believe there's something about the rhythm of physical
motion that calms the central nervous system" Dr. Harris Report that mildly to
moderately depressed patients who do exercises 20 to 30 minutes at least every
other day often experience a lifting of spirits in just two to three weeks.
:EXERCISE
SLOWS THE AGAIN PROCESS: "Even those who start a regular exercise
program in their forties can reduce the rate at which they lose aerobic capacity"
says Michael Pollock, Ph.D., director of the center of exercise Science at the
University of Florida "As you age, this capacity usually decreases by up to 50
% with the normal pattern in non exercisers begin a drop of 10% per decade. Our
studies show that with the proper exercise program, people age 30 and over can
increase aerobic capacity between 15 and 30 %". In addition exercise promotes
better skin tone by keeping skin more elastic.
: EXERCISES
REDUCED THE RISK OF HEART DISEASE: "Those who don't exercise have
twice the risk of developing heart diseases than those who exercise regularly"
says Carl Caspersen, pH. D., M.P.H., exercise epidemiologist for the Center for
Disease Control in Atlanta. Why? "Exercise increases the amount of blood pumped
per heartbeat as well as the amount of blood that circulates in the body. The
exercised heart is thus more efficient, transferring more oxygen to the body's
cell more easily" explains Dr. Caspersen.
EXERCISE
MAY HELP WARD OFF INFECTION. "Preliminary results indicate that exercise
may enhance the immune system's ability to fight off clods, flu and other bacterial
and viral infections", says Dr. Harvey B. Simon, an internist at Harvard Medical
School in Boston and Author of "the Athlete Within (little, Brown) "We do know
that white blood cells and the chemical inteleukin-1 (both components of the immunize
system) are temporarily elevated by exercise" he explains.
:
EXERCISES RISES "GOOD CHOLESTEROL : "We have several types
of cholesterol in our blood" says Paul M. Ribisl , pH. D., director of Wake Foresst
Cardiac Rehabilitation Program in Winston-Salem, North California. "The two most
important are LDL (Lower Density Lipoprotein) and HDL (High Density Lipoprotein)
in large amount, LDL is an undesirable type of cholesterol as it contributes to
a higher risk of sears disease. In contrast." , he continues "HDL is considered
beneficial because it's believe to remove other types of cholesterol from the
blood and arteries. Exercise is important because it is one of the few voluntary
activities that's effective in raising the HDL level"
:
EXERCISE IMPROVES THE QUALITY OF SLEEP: "Exercisers go to
sleep more quickly, sleep more soundly and awake refreshed than non exercisers"
says exercise physiologist David Engerbretson, Ph.D., of human performance Laboratory
at Washington State University in Pullman. "This is partly because your muscles
are less tense when you work out regularly and so they relax more easily at night
when it's time to sleep" he explains.
: EXERCISE
RELIEVES STRESS AND ANXIETY : According to Diana Kenepp, academic
athletic counselor at Penn State University . "During Period of High Stress the
body builds up hormones and other chemicals in the blood called stress products
and induces a period of deep physical and emotional relaxation that sets in ninety
minutes after a vigorous workout". Exercise may also cause the body to release
endorphins -- Chemical than induce state of euphoria -- that also help combat
feelings of stress.
